SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 MODELS, FEATURES, RELEASE DATE: If you’re familiar with Samsung model numbers, you’re aware why this is kind of a big deal. If you’re not familiar with Samsung model numbers, here’s the deal: the original launch model of the Samsung Galaxy S II was GT-i9200; the original launch model of the Galaxy S III was GT-i9300; the model that was just caught in benchmark results is the GT-i9400….you can see where we’re going with this.
Unfortunately, it looks like Samsung is just testing the firmware of the i9400 at this point, as they’re running it on dummy hardware with specs far too low to be the real Galaxy S IV. In the benchmark tests, the device is shown to be sporting a 480 x 800 screen and a dual-core 1.2GHz processor. Those are definitely not Galaxy S IV-caliber specs.
So while it’s clear that Samsung is working on their next Android flagship, they’re not quite ready to spill the beans on the hardware specs yet. As Samsung Mobile points out, the first Galaxy S III benchmarks showed up in December of last year, and the device launched in May of this year. If the S IV follows the same trajectory, we should see it next spring!
For now, here’s what early rumors are telling us the Galaxy S IV might have for hardware specs: a 13 megapixel camera that was originally supposed to make it into the Galaxy Note II, but was delayed; a 5-inch, full HD, 441ppi display; a quad-core A15 processor called the Exynos 5450; and, last but not least, Android 4.2, which can be seen running on the dummy hardware in the aforementioned benchmark results.
